Dear colleagues and friends,
We are delighted to invite you to the third edition of the Ghent International Endoscopy Quality Symposium (GIEQs), scheduled to take place on Thursday and Friday, September 29-30, 2022.
The Local Organising Committee of the GIEQs Symposium does hope that 2022 can be the year of physical attendance, and is planning to welcome an onsite audience of endoscopists, nurses, trainees and exhibitors to Ghent (Belgium) in addition to the well-established online community.
The very successful first digital editions of the GIEQs Symposium brought together over 500 delegates per event, from 37 countries, and confirmed the importance of and the need for educational events focusing on everyday endoscopy.
At GIEQs we believe that there is a need for an international endoscopy congress focused on the techniques that are performed by all endoscopists, every day of their working lives. These include, but are not limited to, painless colonoscopy, small and intermediate polypectomy, gastroscopy and the detection of early-stage precursors of upper and lower GI cancer, the treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding, etc. An increasing body of evidence underpins both how to perform these techniques, how to train others in their practice and in which situation to apply a particular technique; indeed applying an evidence-based approach may have a long-lasting impact on patient care.
This is what we mean by quality in Endoscopy – the application of the best available evidence to all endoscopic procedures.
“At GIEQs we believe we can do everyday endoscopy better. Together, using an emerging evidence base we can
increase the quality of everyday endoscopic interventions.” – David Tate, GIEQs President
Further building on the success of GIEQs 2021, we will focus this year on decision making in all aspects of endoscopic practice; these are key moments in the patients endoscopic journey which determine correct management of their problem.
Putting decision making at the forefront of everything we do as endoscopists highlights the key things that need to be done to improve everyday endoscopic practice.
Highlights of the 2022 scientific programme include:
