About InnoTrans

InnoTrans 2022 is the leading international trade fair for transport technology and takes place every two years in Berlin. Around 57 countries will be exhibiting in 42 halls at Berlin Exhibition Ground featuring innovation in the five trade fair segments: Railway Technology, Railway Infrastructure, Public Transport, Interiors and Tunnel Construction.

Alongside other international pavilions, the Department for International Trade together with the Railway Industry Association will host a UK Pavilion – come and find us!

The UK Pavilion will be hosted in Hall 2.2 | 230 and Hall 23 | 340.

The stand shows a wide range of modern technological applications, consultancy advice and many other features from the hugely diverse supply industry in Britain. RIA's 300+ members include manufacturers of all kinds, infrastructure and rolling stock maintenance companies, contractors, consultants and providers of specialist services to the world's railways.

UK Rail

The UK Government published its long-awaited plan to deliver net zero for the transport sector in July 2021. ‘Decarbonising Transport – A Better, Greener Britain’ details an ambitious set of actions to address the reality of transport being the largest contributor to UK domestic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, responsible for 27% in 2019.  The plan recognizes the need to increase the share of trips taken by public transport as well as by walking and cycling, making these the natural first choice for all who can take them. The TDP asserts that the UK will achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions from trains by 2050, transforming rail journeys within a generation.
Rail is already the greenest form of motorised transport, with almost 38% of the network electrified and more to come. In May 2021, the Williams-Shapps Plan for Rail set out the UK strategy to grow the network, make it easier to use, and simpler and cheaper to run. Electrified trains are faster, quicker to accelerate, more reliable and much cheaper to run. There will also be a role for new traction technologies, like battery and hydrogen trains, on some lines where they make economic and operational sense.

The rail network will be net zero emissions by 2050 through a sustained, long-term programme of investment in rail electrification, supported by deployment of battery and hydrogen-powered trains. By 2040, the ambition is to remove all diesel-only trains (passenger and freight) from the network. We will get more people and goods on trains by building extra capacity on our rail network and working with industry to modernise fares ticketing and retail to encourage a shift to rail

Commercial Opportunities

The demand for new equipment and services in the rail sector is driven by a national infrastructure pipeline worth over £100 billion. The Government’s National Infrastructure Strategy 2020 sets out record levels of investment in strategic sustainable rail. The UK’s Traction Decarbonisation Network Strategy highlights incentives to take up low carbon traction by rail freight operators, plus further electrification of the rail network and battery and hydrogen train innovations.
Doncaster, as one of the most established and important rail and rolling stock hubs in the UK, will take a leading role in supporting the UK government to achieve their emissions reduction targets, as outlined in The Transport Decarbonisation Plan.
