Base Oils I: Fundamentals of the Base Oils Business

Base Oils II: Quality Drivers, Forecasting and Global Profitability

The second course will address why engine oil quality matters to all other base oil sectors. A profitability exercise is conducted showing the competitiveness of Group I, II, and III base oil plants of equal size.

You will gain insights on pricing mechanisms as well as learn how to forecast supply and demand. Finally, you will find out more about ongoing supply trends from base oil hydroprocessing as well as the forecast for bio-based base oils, re-refined base oils, and Group V synthetics.

About the Trainer

Amy Claxton – CEO, My Energy

Amy Claxton is a registered professional Chemical Engineer and owns a consulting company called My Energy. With thirty five years in the refining industry, her expertise includes global crude oil quality assessment; fuels and base oil refining technology and economics; and base oil pricing and supply forecasting. In addition, she has two decades of expertise involving gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology, economics, and intellectual property.

Prior to starting her own company in 2001, Amy worked for Dow Chemical, Exxon, and ExxonMobil. After assignments in refinery fuels, chemical, and base oil operations, she became manager for technical services at Exxon’s Baytown, Texas refinery. During the Exxon – Mobil merger, Amy was Exxon’s Corporate Base Oil Liaison for senior officials and lawyers at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, Exxon, Mobil, and outside law firms.

Amy speaks regularly at global industry conferences and presents timely updates on topics of interest to the lubricant base oil, wax and gas-to-liquids industries. She is known for her ability to explain technical information in a concise and jargon-free manner.
