The automotive sector

The automotive industry is a vital part of the UK economy accounting for more than £82 billion turnover and £20.2 billion value added. With some 186,000 people employed directly in manufacturing and in excess of 856,000 across the wider automotive industry, it accounts for 13.0% of total UK export of goods and invests £3.8 billion each year in automotive R&D.

The UK has world class capabilities in the areas of low carbon technologies, connected and autonomous vehicles, lightweight materials, motorsport and niche low-volume vehicle manufacturing.

The adoption of electric vehicles has now reached a tipping point, but there is still much to be done to improve the performance and lower the cost of such vehicles. The UK is a world leader in developing more efficient electric powertrains and is increasingly undertaking EV R&D for global car manufacturers. The LCV/CAM event is a great opportunity to see the latest EV technology and identify how it could accelerate your EV programmes.

Similarly, the UK is pioneering technology in connected and automated vehicles (CAV). With Europe’s largest IT sector, and a network of six dedicated CAV testbeds, the UK is global centre of excellence for CAV technology. LCV/CAM provides the ideal opportunity to view the whole of the UK CAV ecosystem, and find the organisations that can provide you with a competitive edge.
