Clare Filshie, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy Oslo

Clare Filshie has been Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Norway since August 2021, working as a job-share with her partner John Fox. The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires.

Clare has previously served (also as a job-share with John) as Political Counsellor in Rome, Consular Regional Director in Singapore and Deputy Head of Human Rights and Democracy Department in the then Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO).

Clare has also been posted to Beijing and speaks Mandarin Chinese, and has served in the Counter Terrorism Department and Overseas Territories Department of the FCO. Clare joined the FCO in 1997. Before that Clare studied Law with German Law at Balliol College, Oxford.

Eli Haugerud, Lead for Smart Innovation Communities at Smart Innovation Norway

Eli Haugerud hold a M.Sc. degree in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Oslo (UiO) and has taken several additional master courses within Design Thinking and strategic innovation, computers science and pedagogy.

Eli has previously worked at Tekna for 12 years and held positions as Head of Innovation, Director of Politics and Head of Professional Societies. She has been developing networks, policies and arenas to share competence and building a better society. Prior to her time at Tekna, she came from a background as a leader in international IT companies and the education sector. Eli also currently holds some positions within tech and engineering organization boards.

In her job at Smart Innovation Norway, she holds the position as Head of Clusters and is responsible for the company’s overall operation of the two clusters, NCE Smart Energy Markets and Cluster for Applied AI. She is a part of the management team and reports to the CEO.

Sam Cassidy, Inward Investment Manager at NewcastleGateshead

Sam Cassidy is an experienced and passionate inward investment professional, supporting investment and business growth in Newcastle.

With a master’s degree in Ecological Economics from the University of Leeds, Sam is particularly focused on supporting inward investment which drives net zero ambition, inclusive growth, and the transition to truly sustainable cities.

Dan Bjørke, Head of scaling initiative at BI Norwegian Business School & Kongsberg Innovation

Dan Bjørke is Head of BI Innovation at BI Norwegian Business School and leads Kongsberg Innovation and BIs joint scaling initiative.

He has extensive experience in working with scaling of Norwegian tech-companies and has started several ventures himself.

Dan has held diverse roles throughout his career, including Chairman of the Norwegian Business Association China during his 10 year-long China expatriation.

Dan holds a Master’s degree in Chinese Business Law from Fudan University in Shanghai.

Olav Madland, CEO at Applied Autonomy

Olav introduced self-driving vehicles to Norway the spring 2016 and has responsibility for over 20 operations in Norway and Europe with autonomous vehicles and automated transport.

He has the coordination responsibility of the National Testarena in Kongsberg with autonomous transport integrated with Public Transport. The test arena is integrated with municipality, county administration, transport operators and the National Public Road Administration.

Olav has an Honours degree within information technology, statistics, and administration from the University of Bergen (1989), followed by a series of business management courses from Europe’s prestigious and leading business school INSEAD (1999), in Paris, France.

His background shows a balanced mix of management roles within the telecom, banking, and finance sectors.

He therefore is fully aware of the complexity of working internationally, and of how to connect heterogeneous systems and actors to support automated solutions and sustainability.

Torun Degnes, CEO at SAMS-Norway and Project Leader at ZAWAS

Torun Degnes, CEO at SAMS Norway, a business cluster focusing on the development of systems for sustainable autonomous transport solutions used on land, air and sea.

Degnes has several years of experience within different clusters and over 20 years of experience with innovation and product development from various types of industry. Both as CEO of Techni AS and as consultant in innovation processes for multiple companies.

As the cluster manager Degnes is overall responsible for all activities within the cluster and works with partners across the nation as well as across borders.

Degnes earned a master’s degree in Industrial Design from Oslo and has complimentary courses in Systems Oriented Design, Innovation, Management and Democracy.

Peter Due, Partner Manager & Sr. Business Developer at Kongsberg Innovation

Peter works with strategic partnerships for Kongsberg Innovation. He also assists tech start-ups with business development.

He is an experienced entrepreneur, most recently CEO in Yeti Move(exit to Husqvarna Group) delivering autonomous snow clearing technology to Avinor – Oslo Airport and Swedavia - Stockholm Airport. Former EVP in Yara Birkeland and co-creator of the Yara Birkeland project – the world’s first fully autonomous zero emission commercial vessel, Director Autonomy in Kongsberg Maritime, 15 years as entrepreneur with own ventures, Vice Consul Royal Norwegian Embassy Saudi Arabia, Army Officer.

Duncan Ray, Founder at Remarkable City

Remarkable City helps cities to attract investment and harness innovation to boldly address their biggest challenges.

Before setting up Remarkable City, Duncan led the regeneration of Shoreditch and the 'Tech City' area of London for the London Borough of Hackney. This work included him helping to establish the Oslo-Hackney relationship, which is now in its tenth year.

Duncan founded Remarkable City to apply systems thinking to cities to help build capacity in a changing world.

Leif Erik Havnen, CEO at Vicotee

Leif Erik Havnen is CEO at Vicotee, a startup company developing and manufacturing wireless sensors for smart cities, smart buildings, and smart utilities. He has extensive experience within the electronics industry and have held several leading positions within sales, growth, and engineering.

Havnen is educated as an electrical engineer from Sør-Trøndelag University College. He also holds a marketing and economics degree from BI Norwegian Business School and a MSc in Telecommunication and Software from the University of Surrey.

Sølve Fauskevåg, Chief Business Development Officer at AugmentCity

Sølve on a mission to accelerate and de-risk sustainable city transformations globally. He is one of Norways leading experts on smart sustainable cities and has held positions as Head of Innovation Norway’s Hub for Smart Sustainable Cities, board member of Nordic Solutions for C40 and board member of Norwegian Smart Cities prior to joining AugmentCity as Vice President. 

With AugmentCity, he’s spearheading a mission to leverage arguably the world’s most advanced offshore simulation technology with a data-driven systems approach to enable cities to achieve net-zero faster, at lower risk – and while improving urban quality of life. Most Norwegian cities have already used this approach and growing portfolio of cities internationally are being onboarded too. The AugmentCity platform has recently picked up speed also with solution-providers who work with AugmentCity to showcase, test and optimise their own sustainable solutions.

Could we be looking at a global metaverse for smart, sustainable cities?

Sølve’s background in public planning from the University of Bergen, Norway, adds depth and direction to the gaming based, future proof technology platform he brings into play through AugmentCity. He’s also experienced with delivering complex large-scale transformation programmes across Europe and globally after a decade of positions with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), Belgium, and Rolls-Royce, UK/Norway.
