A flavour of the DIT Sports Conference 2019

The Department for International Trade hosted its 2019 Sports Conference at the iconic Twickenham Stadium on Tuesday 12th March, in amongst the exciting final week of the Six Nations Tournament. The Conference was a great success with over 85 delegates from across the sports economy sector, as well as DIT representatives from overseas. DIT welcomed Manuel Vial from the Chilean Ministry of Sports who provided the keynote speech on Chile’s plans to host the 2023 Pan American Games, as well as a welcome speech from Duncan Head from the RFU in the stunning home of England Rugby Union.

The day’s programme consisted of interesting and insightful discussions on sports technology and innovation, the power of major sporting events at domestic and international levels, and a debate on the emergence of new sports markets. DIT also welcomed UK Export Finance, and heard a panel session given by DIT overseas commercial officers based in markets.

Attendees participated in a thorough day of business discussions and networking between the sessions which carried on in to the evening drinks reception.
