The panel session brings together senior healthcare leaders to explore how prevention protects capacity, improves outcomes, and builds resilience across primary, secondary, emergency and community care.  

For 77 years the UK has been embedding prevention models across the structure, policy, strategy, workforce, clinical guidance and regulation of the healthcare system.  Specifically establishing evidence-based guidelines to ensure consistent and preventative practices.

The UK offers the largest integrated health system in the world, the NHS, with a trusted expertise and reputation that is in demand globally.  It is a global leader in the delivery of cost-effective, evidence-based healthcare provision, as well as digital service transformation, healthcare education and net zero healthcare.

Government expenditure is the principal mode of healthcare financing in the UK and stood at £239 billion in 2023, representing 81.9% of overall healthcare spending. This mode of financing includes spending by the NHS, local authorities, and other public bodies financing healthcare. 

The largest area of NHS day-to-day spending is typically staff costs, equating to 49% of day-to-day expenditure. Other areas of significant spending include primary caregeneral practicedentistry, procurement (supplies and services to deliver health care) and non-NHS health care (independent, local authority or voluntary, community or social enterprise sector providers).
