Ryan Diggory

Senior Policy Advisor- International Trade, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS)

Ryan works with businesses in the materials and chemicals sectors so that the Government has a full understanding of their needs from trade policy and BEIS is able to represent their interests in negotiations and domestic policy discussions. His current focus is on communicating actions the Government recommends businesses should take to prepare for potential new trading arrangements and working with businesses as they plan. Ryan has previously worked in emergency response and health policy roles within the Civil Service. Before that he worked in the NHS.

Leo McDaid

Chemicals Trade Police and Negotiations Team Leader - Chemicals Regulation Division, Health & Safety Executive (HSE)

Leo has worked for HSE for over 30 years with the vast majority of that time being in policy work.  Leo has extensive experience of working and negotiating in the EU as well as in implementing EU legislation into UK law. Leo led for HSE on biocides policy before going to work full time on EU Exit issues related to chemicals in 2017.  He currently leads the team in HSE dealing with chemicals trade policy and negotiations on the chemicals aspects of any UK future trade agreements as well as on policy on the chemicals aspects of the NI Protocol.

Ieuan Jones

Policy Advisor, Stakeholder Engagement and Communications/Data Disputes, Chemicals, Pesticides and Hazardous Waste, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)

Ieuan Jones works in stakeholder engagement and leads development of the UK REACH data dispute process within the Chemicals, Pesticides and Hazardous Waste division of the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Ieuan’s role involves coordinating work on development of the UK’s new domestic chemicals regime across Whitehall while ensuring sector readiness for the end of the transition period. Prior to joining Defra Ieuan’s background was in social science, training as an Ecological Economist with a focus on resource consumption and distributional mechanisms in steady state economies.

Mark Oakes 

Head of Bioeconomy (Chemicals), Clean Growth and Relationship Management - Department of International Trade

Mark has been head of the Bioeconomy team for the past four years. His main role has been in leading the team in its support of UK exports and Inward Investment across a broad range of markets from the US to China. At a strategic level he has led on Brexit related issues, the Clean Growth Agenda and the Bioeconomy Strategy. Mark is a member of the senior management team for the wider Healthcare, Life Science and Bioeconomy sector cluster.

Mark has worked in six government bodies in his varied career, including Intelligence, Defence, Cabinet Office, No 10, HMRC, Business, and DIT. He has also been seconded to Airbus and the Houses of Parliament.
