THE ANNUAL EVENT FOR ART HISTORY

Bringing together current research and critical debate about art, art history and visual cultures. Join us in Newcastle from 1 - 3 April 2020.

Status update: 2020 Annual Conference and COVID-19
Unfortunately, due to new regulations around COVID-19 prevention measures, the 2020 Annual Conference will NOT take place from 1 - 3 April as planned. This follows guidance from our host Universities that prevents meetings of more than 50 people taking place on campus before the end of April 2020. We are currently looking into options of rescheduling the conference for later in the year and will advise on whether this can be organised as soon as we can. Please check our FAQs for updated responses to common questions. [updated 13.03.20]

Connect. Convene. Converge
Taking place over three days the Annual Conference hosts speakers from around the world and across disciplines. Stay up to date with new research, and hear inspiring keynotes, the Annual Conference helps you to broaden networks and exchange ideas. Connecting 500 delegates with and for art history.

Breadth. Excellence. Inclusivity
Since 1974 the Association for Art History has championed a broad and inclusive art history, for which the Annual Conference is known and respected. No other annual event for art history in the UK offers the breadth and quality of research, in one place, at one time.

One place. Many ideas. Shared interests
Presenting research at the Annual Conference has helped hundreds of speakers and convenors develop their research, expand their professional networks and build their personal and professional visibility.

Collaboration and Partnership
We believe that art history inspires you to think differently, and see differently. Every year we work with universities and colleges around the UK to create an event that encourages a broad and inclusive art history for all. This year we are delighted to be working in partnership with Newcastle University and Northumbria University.

Value and Relevance
In addition to sessions, the conference hosts a range of other activities. A bustling Bookfair with opportunities to meet with editors, a fringe programme of events, professional development workshops, inspiring keynotes, self-selecting networking opportunities, as well as a selection of local visits and tours.

You can pick and choose from 35 sessions and 200 research papers, and tailor the programme to your interests and needs. You can exchange and develop your research with like-minded people, and expand your networks and contacts. You can discuss and debate ideas within a collegiate space. Build upon your professional skills, grow your professional and personal visibility, and gain new perspectives.

Open to all
The Annual Conference is for those presenting new research, and those wanting to listen and learn about new research. Delegates include academics, curators, artists, phd students, early career researchers, publishers, writers and anyone else engaged with art history research. The conference is open to art historians and non art historians, and to members and non members. Everyone is welcome.
