Airport Arrival Information

Bergen airport Flesland is located about 18 kilometres south of Bergen city.  There are several ways to get to Bergen city centre from the airport:

*The Airport Bus (Flybussen) takes about 30 minutes and stops at Bryggen where the event’s hotel and all other alternative hotels are situated.  You can find the bus just outside the arrival terminal.  Adult fare:  NOK 125

*The cheapest way to get from Bergen airport Flesland to Bergen city centre is to go by the City Light Rail (Bybanen) which takes 45 minutes.  * The City Light Rail starts right at the airport terminal and ends in the centre of Bergen. Adult fare: NOK 38.

* The most direct way to get to Bergen city centre is to go by taxi.   A taxi from Bergen airport Flesland to Bergen city centre costs NOK 400-500, but prices vary according to the time of day and the number of passengers. Taxis are parked just outside the arrival terminal.

Transportation

Most of the activities will be within walking distance from the hotels.  Transport will be provided for the Welcome Reception at the Grieg Hall.

Taxis are readily available outside the hotels.

Clothing

June is the beginning of summer in Norway.

The average temperature in Bergen in June is 14 degrees C / 57 degrees F and there will be a mixture of rain and sunshine.  There will be appro. 18 hours day light.

Visitors travelling to Bergen should plan on bringing a waterproof rain jacket, since it might be raining some days.

Plan on layering your clothes some days, or part of the day, it will be nice and warm, and some moments it will be a bit chilly.

The dress code for the meeting will be smart casual or uniform, for the Presentation Ceremony and Gala dinner the dress code will be smart, uniform or national dress.

Currency and Payment

The official currency used in Norway is Norwegian crowns (NOK).

Notes are denominated in NOK 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000.

Coins are in NOK 1, 5, 10 and 20.

Debit cards and credit cards are widely used in Norway. Most cards, including Visa, MasterCard, Access, Diners and America Express are accepted in hotels, restaurants and shops.

Tipping

Tipping is customary in restaurants depending on the level of service. (5 – 10%)

Time Zone

Bergen in June is on Central European Summer Time (CEST) - UTC/GMT + 2 hours.

Water

Tap water in Norway is safe to drink.

If you prefer mineral or sparkling water, this is readily available in shops or at vending machines.

Internet

All hotels have access to free internet.

Electricity

The voltage in Norway is 220 -230 volts and electrical plugs for use within the hotel rooms have two cylindrical pins – CEE 7/16 or Europlug

We advise you to bring your own adaptors.

Smoking

Smoking in Norway is prohibited indoors in public buildings, aboard all means of public transport and in the waiting area for public transport. In addition, it is also illegal to smoke in outdoor locations that are close to schools and hospitals.

Name Tags

Name tags will be given out at registration.

Attendees are asked to wear name tags at all times during the event, as these are entry tickets to activities and events.

Communication

At OB-PS we welcome people from all over the world. This means many people will be speaking and working in English as their second, third or fourth language. We ask everyone to please try to speak clearly and slowly.
